Joint Fire Committee Meeting

Wednesday June 3, 2020

The Joint Fire Committee meeting was called or order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Roger Hetzel.

Present were: Roger Hetzel, Dan Folan, Matt Lemke, Kip Gutke, Ken Trzebiatowski, Richard Burns and Carol Smith.

Meeting called to order by Chairman R. Hetzel at 7:00pm

Election of Officers – K. Trzebiatowski made a motion, seconded by K. Gutke to keep officers the same.  Motion approved 6-0

Discussion was held as to if we should charge for fire runs.  Dan will check with other departmenst to see what they do.  Mike Phillips gave us an outline of what the Bancroft Dept does.  After further discussion R. Burns made a motion, seconded by Matt to have the fire department come up with a billing system and reports for the next board meeting.  Motion approved 6-0.  Then it would be taken to the Town and Village boards for approval.

Chief’s report – There have been 17 fire runs and 34 ems runs to date. He enlightened the members as to what precautions have been taken for the Cornia 19.

Chief then brought up discussion on replacing the (Green) #4 Tender and the #5 tender with one tender.  The two oldest ones.  They are both 42 yrs old. This tender would have storage for the LDH, 2200 to 2500 gal, small 250 gal pump, swivel dump shoot, hydraulic arm for the dump tank and storage.  Approximate cost $225,000.00 – $250,000.00.  Amherst is buying two tanks similar to what we are looking at.  If Almond and Amherst were to go together and get  three identical trucks,  we are looking at a better purchase deal.  There is a deal of 3% interest of a lease to buy available.  Matt said the bank could do better than that for governments.

Roger would like to see quotes for both single and double axels.

The board gave permission for Chief and fire members to get a committee together and look into purchasing a different tender.  What type of truck and equipment it would take to put it together.  They are to get together with Amherst and compare notes.

The board recommends a price of not more than $250,000.00 (MAX).   K. Trzebiatowski made a motion, seconded by R. Burns to recommend the max of no more than $250,000.00.  Motion approved 6-0.   The committee will take these recommendations back to their respective boards.

Next meeting will be in August to see what the committee comes up with.  Also, will go over the budget for the 2021 year.

K. Gutke made a motion, seconded by R. Burns to adjourn

Adjourned at 8:30pm

Respectfully submitted

Carol Smith, Secretary
